Planning for IBM System Storage XIV

Before using IBM® System Storage® XIV® storage with PowerVC, ensure that you understand all requirements and restrictions.

For requirements and restrictions, such as firmware and license requirements, refer to IBM Storage volume driver.
Notes:
  • The XIV volume driver supports host entries on the XIV controller that contain WWPNs but does not support host entries on the XIV controller that contain other host entries. For details, see Clustering hosts into LUN maps. PowerVC can use shared volumes on XIV to attach a volume to multiple virtual machines. Shared volumes are typically used with clustering software executed in the virtual machines.
  • When you create a volume ranging from 1GB to 17 GB, XIV allocates 17 GB which is the minimum allocation for XIV storage. Similarly, when you create a volume ranging from 18 GB to 34 GB, XIV allocates 34 GB and so on.
  • Refer to the XIV documentation for establishing a Thin provisioning pool.
