Creating a routing rule or workload group

You can create a routing rule in a new workload group. You can change the rule name or description.

About this task

When you create a routing rule, the rule is created in a new workload group. CICS Explorer® generates a name and description for the rule. The generated description is Rule xx where xx is a number that CICS Explorer assigns, and the name is initially hidden. You can move the rule and associate it with other rules in a different group in the workload specification.

Procedure

  1. In the Rules section of the Workload Specification editor, click the Add a new routing rule icon Add a new routing rule icon.
A new routing rule is added and the generated description is displayed. If you click in the workbench away from the rule description, the greater than symbol (>) is displayed to indicate that the rule is new and is not yet saved.
  2. Optional: To show the generated workload group, click the Show or hide names icon Show or hide names icon.
All the workload groups in the workload specification are displayed, including the new one.
  3. Optional: To change the description of the workload group or routing rule, right-click the description, then click Edit description on the menu. Type the new description, then press Enter.
You can press Ctrl+Z (cmd+Z for macOS) to undo the changes.
  4. Optional: To change the name of the routing rule, right-click the routing rule description, then click Set Workload Definition Name on the menu. Type the new name, then press Enter.
The name can be up to 8 characters and must be a unique workload definition name. For more information, see CICSPlex SM naming conventions in the CICS TS 6.1.0 product documentation. You can press Ctrl+Z (cmd+Z for macOS) to undo the changes.
  5. Optional: To change the name of the workload group, right-click the workload group description, then click Set Workload Group Name on the menu. Type the new name, then press Enter.
The name can be up to 8 characters and must be a unique workload group name. For more information, see CICSPlex SM naming conventions in the CICS TS 6.1.0 product documentation. You can press Ctrl+Z (cmd+Z for macOS) to undo the changes.
