Opening the Rule Execution Server console on the sample server

If you selected Rule Execution Server in the installer, you can access a demonstration of the Rule Execution Server console on the sample server.

Before you begin

You must install Rule Execution Server by using Installation Manager.

About this task

Decision Server provides a sample server to demonstrate Rule Execution Server, and run tutorials and samples. To access the console, you must start the sample server and enter the Rule Execution Server web address in a browser.

Restriction:

The sample server runs on WebSphere Liberty, and is installed on only distributed platforms.

Procedure

To open the Rule Execution Server console:

  1. Start the sample server.
    • On Windows, click Start > All Programs > package_group > Sample Server > Start server.
    • On UNIX, you can find an executable file in the <InstallDir>/shared/bin directory.
  2. Start the Rule Execution Server console.
    • Windows, do one of the following operations:
      • Either enter the web address: http://localhost:<PORT>/res
      • Click Start > All Programs > package_group > Sample Server > Rule Execution Server Console.
    • UNIX:
      • Run a shortcut in the <InstallDir>/shared/bin directory.

The package_group placeholder refers to the package group that you specified when you installed the product. The default package group is Operational Decision Manager V8.9.0.

  3. Log in by entering one of the following preconfigured user-password combinations, depending on your user role:
    • Administrator: resAdmin/resAdmin
    • Monitor: resMonitor/resMonitor
    • Deployer: resDeployer/resDeployer
    Note:

Single sign-on (SSO) authentication is activated for the sample server. With SSO, users can log in once and gain access to all applications without being prompted to log in again for each of them. If you use different sign-on credentials for the applications on the sample server, for example when performing certain samples and tutorials, you get an error message when you attempt to sign in to the second application.

To avoid this issue, you must sign out of the first console and then sign in to the second console. Alternatively, you can sign in to all of the applications on the server by using the credentials that you entered at installation time.

What to do next

After you are logged in, you can access instructions on how to use the Rule Execution Server console by clicking Help in the banner.

To deploy and configure Rule Execution Server on another supported application server, you must install the downloadable package for that server and refer to its documentation. See Configuring.
