Categories page

You can use the Categories page in the Software Management task to define new categories and modify, view, copy, or remove existing categories.

To display the Categories page, click Categories on the Software Management page. If the Categories link is not provided, you cannot access the Categories page because you are not authorized to perform the aforementioned actions. For more information about categories, see help topic Organizing your software and deployments.

The Categories table lists the categories that are defined to z/OSMF. For a description of the columns or actions, see Columns in the Categories table or Actions for categories.

To define a new category, complete the steps provided in help topic Defining new categories.

Columns in the Categories table

Column Description
Name Name of the category. Click the name link to display the View Category page.
Description Description of the category.
Activity State of the category. If the category is being modified, the lock icon and the Being modified link are displayed. Otherwise, this column is blank.

To view the user ID of the user who is modifying the category and the date and time the user started modifying it, click the icon or link. To obtain the lock for the category, complete the steps provided in help topic Locking objects in z/OSMF.

Last Modified Date and time the category was last modified.
Modified By User ID of the user who last modified the category.
Locked Date and time the category was locked. This column is blank if the category is not currently locked.
Locked By User ID of the user who locked the category. This column is blank if the category is not currently locked.

Actions for categories

The actions are described in the following tables:

  • Targeted actions. Actions that apply to the selected categories. These actions are listed in the Actions menu and the context menu only if you are authorized to perform them. To use a targeted action, select one or more categories.
  • General actions. Actions that apply to categories. These actions are listed in the Actions menu only if you are authorized to perform them. No selection is required when using general actions.
  • Table actions. Actions that apply to the entire table. No selection is required.

Modify Modify the selected category. To enable this action, select only one category.
View View the selected category. To enable this action, select only one category.
Copy Create a copy of the selected category. To enable this action, select only one category.
Remove Remove the selected categories. To enable this action, select one or more categories.

Select All Select all of the rows in the table.
Deselect All Deselect all of the selected rows in the table.
Configure Columns Select the columns to display in the table, specify the order of those columns, and designate which columns should be fixed in position when the table is scrolled horizontally.
Hide Filter Row Remove the filter row from view. This action is listed only when the filter row is displayed in the table.
Show Filter Row Display the filter row. This action is listed only when the filter row is not displayed in the table.
Clear Sorts Clear the sort from all of the columns in the table. This action is disabled if no sorting is specified in the table.
