OAM uses the concepts of system-managed storage, introduced by SMS, to manage, maintain, and verify tape volumes and tape libraries within a tape storage environment. This topic describes the OAM library support functions that have been changed for use with the TS1140 tape drives. The enhancements include support for two new recording formats, EFMT4 and EEFMT4 and three new media types, MEDIA11, MEDIA12, and MEDIA13.

These steps should be considered when planning to use the new TS1140 (3592-4E) drives:

1. Define the new devices using HCD.
2. Modify your ACS routines to select tape storage groups and libraries with TS1140 (3592-4E) devices.
3. Add, as appropriate, data classes to use the new recording formats (EFMT4 and EEFMT4) and the new media types (MEDIA11, MEDIA12 and MEDIA13) on the new TS1140 (3592-4E) drives. MEDIA9 and MEDIA10 can also be used with EFMT4 and EEFMT4.
4. Add, as appropriate (for media interchange), data classes with EFMT3 and EEFMT3, which can be used on the TS1140 with MEDIA9 and MEDIA10.
5. Specify, as appropriate (for the EEFMT3 or EEFMT4 recording format), the key labels and encoding mechanism for each label.
6. Specify, as appropriate, the read-compatible special attribute indicator for EFMT1 (on MEDIA5 through MEDIA8), EFMT2 and EEFMT2 (on MEDIA5 through MEDIA10), and EFMT3 and EEFMT3 (on MEDIA5 through MEDIA8) formatted volumes. OAM will use the read-compatible special attribute indicator (TDSSPEC) in the tape configuration database (TCDB) or usage of the LABEL=(,,,IN) on the DD statement of JCL to determine if a volume is eligible to be read by a TS1140 (3592-4E) device.
