What's new in IBM Maximo Asset Management Multitenancy

Enhancements for IBM® Maximo® Asset Management Multitenancy 7.6.1.2 include a new process for loading reports and new features for Migration Manager applications. Tenants can now integrate with the Kafka messaging platform to publish and consume messages. Multitenant managers can now assign products to tenants and then assign licenses.

New process for loading reports

To improve performance and efficiency, a new process for loading reports was developed for version 7.6.1.2 of Maximo Asset Management and Maximo Asset Management Multitenancy.

In earlier releases, when users installed or upgraded Maximo Asset Management Multitenancy, any report designs that were not in the report design table were imported when the administrative server was started.

Effective in 7.6.1.2, report additions are no longer imported when the administrative server is started. Report versioning is added to the product XML file. If the report version in the pending upgrade is more recent than the one in the existing XML file, a new ReportImport cron task is automatically launched to import reports.

If your enterprise does not want to use the new report import feature, your administrator can disable it.

New features for Migration Manager applications

In 7.6.1.2, the following changes to Migration Manager applications affect tenants and global administrators in multitenancy environments:
  • A new Database Information migration group is added for tenants.

The Data Dictionary migration group is no longer available for tenants. Tenants can use the new Database Information migration group, DBINFOMETADAT, to migrate their data. Tenants who used the Data Dictionary migration group to migrate data in previous releases must re-create packages using the Database Information migration group.

  • Global administrators must continue to use the Data Dictionary migration group.

Although the new Database Information migration group will be displayed for all users in the list of available migration groups, the Database Information migration group is only for tenants to use. Global administrators should continue to use the Data Dictionary migration group.

  • Replacements do not occur when extended attributes are migrated.

If tenants attempt to migrate a package that contains extended attributes and an attribute in the target is a duplicate of the attribute in the source, the migration fails, and an error message is displayed. To migrate the extended attribute, tenants must first delete the duplicate attribute in the target and then redeploy the migration package.

New Apache Kafka client for data integration

Tenants can integrate with the Kafka messaging platform to publish and consume messages asynchronously from the Kafka platform. Kafka can be configured as an external message provider that accepts and stores outbound and inbound messages.

The product provides the Kafka messaging client that supports consuming, producing, and browsing Kafka topics. To use Kafka features in the product, tenants must obtain and configure a Kafka server instance. Tenants can choose any Kafka provider that is compatible with the Kafka 1.1.1 client libraries.

New actions for the Multitenant Manager for licensing

The Multitenant Manager can now assign products to tenants in the Tenants application. Then, in the License Usage Monitoring application, the tenant manager can configure the Data Collection Settings action to assign licenses.
