Planning
Before you begin the process of installing agents and other components, plan the tasks that are required before installation and following installation so you can make sure the agents that you installed are collecting and displaying data from your resources.
First, you must install the Performance Management server on a host in your environment. When you install the server, the installer creates preconfigured agent packages. You can also create the packages later.
Use these packages to install monitoring agents on every monitored host.
There are several ways to use the IBM® Performance Management and IBM
Tivoli® Monitoring products in your environment:
- If you want to install IBM Performance Management agents on the same computer as IBM Tivoli Monitoring agents, agent coexistence is supported. However, both agent types cannot be installed in the same directory. For more information, see Performance Management agent and Tivoli Monitoring agent coexistence.
- If you want to view data from IBM Tivoli Monitoring agents in the Performance Management console, install the Hybrid Gateway in your hybrid environment and configure communications. For more information, see Hybrid Gateway.
- If you want to view data from Performance Management agents in Tivoli Common Reports, configure Performance Management agents to send history data to IBM Tivoli Data Warehouse.
