Updating a deployment

You might need to update a deployment if you need to edit the configuration tasks that are included in a configuration profile or if you update your deployment environment, such as updating the version of Content Engine that you are running.

Before you begin

Undeploy the existing IBM® Content Navigator web application and then restart the web application server.

About this task

The following list gives common situations in which you might need to update a deployment:
Tip: If you did not enable the IBM Content Navigator Configuration and Deployment Tool to save passwords, you might encounter errors when you run some tasks in the manual configuration and deployment mode. For example, you might see an error message that indicates that the task has one or more blank passwords, but the task does not include any password fields.
If you encounter a blank password error, you must update the configuration profile:
  1. Click File > Edit Profile Properties.
  2. Enter the Administrator password for your web application server and click Finish.

Procedure

To update your deployment:

  1. Open the IBM Content Navigator Configuration and Deployment Tool. The Configuration and Deployment Tool is in the configure subdirectory of the IBM Content Navigator installation directory, by default:

    Linux for System z® /opt/IBM/ECMClient/configure/configmgr.bin
    Windows C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\ECMClient\configure\configmgr.exe
  2. Select Update or reuse an existing deployment profile and then select the profile that you want to update.
  3. If you want to update the information about your web application server or if you want to connect to additional types of repositories, select File > Edit Profile Properties and make the appropriate changes to the deployment.
  4. If you update a task, you must run the task again.
  5. After you update the profile, you must complete the following tasks:
    1. Run Configure the IBM Content Navigator Web Application.
    2. Run Build the Web Application.
    3. Run Deploy the Web Application. Alternatively, you can manually deploy the web application that you created in the previous step to your web application server.
