Before you begin upgrading a Nortel CS2000 Technology Pack to GenBand C20 Converged IP Softswitch Technology Pack

About this task

Before you upgrade a currently deployed Nortel CS2000 Technology Pack to GenBand C20 Converged IP Softswitch Technology Pack, ensure that you have the following:
  • Identified the UBA collectors that you configured for each of the following devices:
  • Passport Packet Voice Gateway (PVG) - The UBA collector executing on this subchannel retrieves Bulk input files that are generated by the GenBand C20 PVG device.
  • Universal Signaling Point (USP) - The UBA collector executing on this subchannel retrieves Bulk input files that are generated by the USP device.
  • Performance - The UBA collector executing on this subchannel retrieves Bulk input files that are generated by the GenBand C20 CS2K Performance device.
  • Integrated Element Management System (IEMS) - The UBA collector executing on this subchannel retrieves Bulk input files that are generated by the GenBand C20 IEMS device.
  • SSL (Session Server Line) - The UBA collector executing on this subchannel retrieves Bulk input files that are generated by the GenBand C20 SSL device.
  • SST (Session Server Trunk) - The UBA collector executing on this subchannel retrieves Bulk input files that are generated by the GenBand C20 SST device.
  • Common Performance Reporting (CPR) - CPR is a log format. The bulk input files that are generated by the PVG device are manipulated by the IEMS system and converted into CPR format.
Note: The CPR Adaptor is also somewhat of a generic adaptor as it can be used to support SST data in CPR format. One instance of the CPR Adaptor can simultaneously support both CPR and SST formats. GenBand recommends that the CPR log format must be manipulated by using the IEMS system, instead of directly from the MDM. So this is facilitated by the CPR Adaptor.
Important: The GenBand C20 Converged IP Softswitch Technology Pack introduced support for a new UBA device called A2 (Adaptive Application Server) and MAS (Media Application Server) starting from 1.3-F.
  • GenBand C20 Media Application Server (MAS) - The UBA collector executing on this subchannel retrieves Bulk input files that are generated by the GenBand C20 MAS device.
  • GenBand C20 Adaptive Application Server (A2) - The UBA collector executing on this subchannel retrieves Bulk input files that are generated by the GenBand C20 A2 device.

You configured the UBA collectors for the GenBand C20 Converged IP Softswitch Technology Pack in Tivoli Netcool/Proviso 4.4.3 fix pack 3 or Tivoli Netcool Performance Manager. The Topology Editor technology pack XSD upgrade wizard requires you to select these UBA collectors in the steps that are described in Upgrading currently deployed Nortel CS2000 Technology Pack to GenBand C20 Converged IP Softswitch Technology Pack

Table 1. Examples of identifying UBA collectors for GenBand C20 Converged IP Softswitch Technology Pack
Device Comments
GenBand C20 - PVG The Topology Editor technology pack XSD upgrade wizard displays this UBA collector as a choice in one of the steps that are described in Upgrading currently deployed Nortel CS2000 Technology Pack to GenBand C20 Converged IP Softswitch Technology Pack.
GenBand C20 - USP The Topology Editor technology pack XSD upgrade wizard displays this UBA collector as a choice in one of the steps that are described in Upgrading currently deployed Nortel CS2000 Technology Pack to GenBand C20 Converged IP Softswitch Technology Pack.
GenBand C20 - CS2K Performance The Topology Editor technology pack XSD upgrade wizard displays this UBA collector as a choice in one of the steps that are described in Upgrading currently deployed Nortel CS2000 Technology Pack to GenBand C20 Converged IP Softswitch Technology Pack.
GenBand C20 - IEMS The Topology Editor technology pack XSD upgrade wizard displays this UBA collector as a choice in one of the steps that are described in Upgrading currently deployed Nortel CS2000 Technology Pack to GenBand C20 Converged IP Softswitch Technology Pack.
GenBand C20 - SSL The Topology Editor technology pack XSD upgrade wizard displays this UBA collector as a choice in one of the steps that are described in Upgrading currently deployed Nortel CS2000 Technology Pack to GenBand C20 Converged IP Softswitch Technology Pack.
GenBand C20 - CDR The Topology Editor technology pack XSD upgrade wizard displays these UBA collectors as choices in one of the steps that are described in Upgrading currently deployed Nortel CS2000 Technology Pack to GenBand C20 Converged IP Softswitch Technology Pack.
GenBand C20 - MAS

MAS performance data is collected from the Media Application Server (MAS) and stores it in CSV (comma-separated values) file format. The Media Application Server is a software-based, media processing server. All media processing is performed in software on the host CPU(s).

The MAS architecture facilitates unique scalability for all core functions of the platform, including signaling, application execution, content management, and media processing.

The CPRAdaptor is instantiated once for PVG, if the PVG data is processed after it is manipulated by the IEMS subsystem. One instance must be created to handle any SS-T data that might be present in the network.

GenBand C20 - CPR

The Topology Editor technology pack XSD upgrade wizard displays these UBA collectors as choices in one of the steps that are described in Upgrading currently deployed Nortel CS2000 Technology Pack to GenBand C20 Converged IP Softswitch Technology Pack.

CPR is a log format. The bulk input files generated by the PVG device are manipulated by the IEMS system and converted into CPR format. GenBand recommends that the CPR log format must be manipulated by using the IEMS system, instead of directly from the MDM. So this is facilitated by the CPR Adaptor.
