Basic OneDrive for Business Connector Configuration

About this task

The minimum steps required to use the new OneDrive for Business connector are the following:

Procedure

  1. Create a new Watson™ Explorer Engine search collection.
  2. In the Configuration tab of your Watson Explorer Engine search collection, click Add a new seed.
  3. A pop-up window displays. Select OneDrive for Business from the scrollable list of available connectors, and click add; the "Seed Component" options will be displayed.
  4. In the Web Application or Site Collections URLs box, enter the URL(s) of your OneDrive for Business Site(s). This is a newline-separated list of URLs of SharePoint web applications or site collections to crawl. For example:
              https://org-my.sharepoint.com/
              https://org-my.sharepoint.com/personal/user_a_onmicrosoft_com
              https://org-my.sharepoint.com/personal/user_b_onmicrosoft_com
The sub-sites of these sites will also be crawled (unless they are excluded by other crawling rules).
The connector can also auto-discover all the OneDrive for Business Site Collections within an organization. To use this functionality, you need to provide the MySite Host URL. For example:
              https://your-org-name-my.sharepoint.com
In addition to this, you need to select the Crawl All OneDrive for Business Sites within an Organization option, in the User Profiles section. See User Profiles Options for more information.
Note: Use the same Web Application or Site Collection URL as it appears in Central Administration or SharePoint Admin Center. If you will want to crawl specific OneDrive for Business Site collections, see the section Filtering URLs At Crawl Time for more information.
  5. In the Username field, enter the OneDrive for Business user name of the account to use for crawling. This user must have access to all the target sites and lists to be crawled and indexed, and must be able to retrieve and resolve the associated permissions. The user name should be of the format Username@org.onmicrosoft.com
  6. In the Password field, enter the crawling account's password. The actual password that you enter is not displayed. Enter that password again in the box below to confirm that you entered it correctly.
  7. Set the Seed URL Type.
Setting that identifies what type of OneDrive object the provided seed URLs point to: site collections or web applications (also known as virtual servers). If the seed URL type is set to Site Collections, then only the children of the site collection referenced by the URL are crawled. If the Seed URL type is set to Web Applications, then all of the site collections (and their children) belonging to the web applications referenced by each URL are crawled.
  8. In the Authentication Type drop-down menu, select the authentication method for your OneDrive for Business deployment: BASIC, NTLM2, KERBEROS, or CBA. The default authentication type is NTLM2.
Note: If you are using Windows Claims Based Authentication, CBA, select the appropriate authentication type and set the ACLs contain Claims option, under the Crawling and ACLs section, to on.
  9. The Use SharePoint Online Authentication option enables authentication to a hosted OneDrive for Business Online server.
Note: To enable this setting, you must use the Site Collections setting as the Seed URL Type. Additionally, this setting should be enabled only when crawling OneDrive for Business or SharePoint Online.
    .
  10. Click OK/Apply to save the updated configuration information for the OneDrive for Business connector.
  11. To complete the configuration to crawl all OneDrive for Business Personal Sites, complete the "User Profiles" section. For additional information, see User Profiles Options

After saving your changes, you will be able to use the commands on the Overview tab of the Watson Explorer Engine Administration tool. At this point, you can initiate a crawl of OneDrive sites on the specified server(s) using the OneDrive for Business connector.

Warning: Be sure you have selected the appropriate authentication method. The OneDrive for Business connector will not function correctly if the wrong Authentication Type is selected. NTLM2 is selected by default.
