Infrastructure map

Get an intuitive overview of your entire infrastructure at a glance.

Overview

The Infrastructure map provides a visual overview of all monitored systems, which are grouped by their named zones. Within each zone are pillars that consist of opaque blocks. Each pillar as a whole represents one agent running on the respective system. Each block within the pillars represents the software components running on that system, and changes color to reflect the component's health.

The map is broken out into a hierarchy from broad to specific: Zone > System or host > Processes > Components. This visual representation helps to quickly identify issues, understand system relationships, and navigate to detailed views for troubleshooting.

Key features

The infrastructure map includes the following key features:

  • Visual hierarchy: View your infrastructure that is organized by zones, hosts, processes, and components in an intuitive map view.
  • Real-time health indicators: See how blocks change color to reflect component health, making issues immediately visible.
  • Flexible grouping: Reorganize zones based on container technologies or custom groupings.
  • Zoom and navigation: Zoom in to see detailed entity information with branded icons for discovered technologies.
  • Metric overlays: Display real-time metrics like CPU load, CPU usage, or memory usage across all systems.
  • Dynamic Focus integration: Use the search bar to filter and focus on specific infrastructure components.
  • Entity version tracking: Automatically track all versions of entities, including configuration changes.

Common use cases

See the following example use cases:

Quick health assessment
Get an immediate visual overview of your entire infrastructure health. Identify problematic systems at a glance by looking for yellow or red indicators that signal incidents or events.
Resource distribution analysis
Display metrics like CPU usage or memory across all systems to see whether resources are equally distributed throughout deployment zones. Identify overloaded or underutilized systems quickly.
Infrastructure exploration
Look through your infrastructure hierarchy to understand system relationships and dependencies. Zoom in on specific pillars to see what technologies and components are deployed on each system.
Change tracking
Monitor entity versions and configuration changes over time. Track when entities go offline and come back online in dynamic environments.

Where to find it in the UI

You can access the infrastructure map from the following locations in the UI:

  • Infrastructure map: Click Infrastructure in the navigation panel to open the infrastructure map view.
  • Zoom controls: Use the +/- buttons or your mouse wheel to zoom in and out.
  • View options: Use icons to rearrange zones, configure grouping, show tags, enable metric aggregations, and display metrics.
  • Search bar: Use the Dynamic Focus search bar to filter infrastructure components.

What problems does this solve?

The infrastructure map addresses the following common infrastructure management challenges:

  • Infrastructure complexity: Simplify understanding of complex, distributed infrastructure with visual organization.
  • Slow issue detection: Identify problems immediately through color-coded health indicators.
  • Context loss: Maintain context of where components run and how they relate to each other.
  • Manual monitoring: Replace manual checks across hundreds of servers with a single visual overview.
  • Resource imbalance: Quickly spot uneven resource distribution across your infrastructure.
