Before you start the installation

Before you start the installation, make sure that you meet the minimum system requirements.

The most up-to-date information about supported hardware, software, browsers, and operating systems is provided by the IBM® Software Product Compatibility Reports available in the following location: https://www.ibm.com/software/reports/compatibility/clarity/index.html

Note: When installing Impact on zLinux RHEL 9.x, system library libcrypt is required. Otherwise, the Impact svn sub-component will not be functional.

Password

Important: During an installation, the impactadmin user name and password must be consistent across all components, including the primary Impact Server and each GUI Server, and any additional secondary servers.
Restriction: The system host name must not contain the underscore character.

User

On UNIX systems, you can run the installer as any user with read, write, and run permissions to the target directory. Netcool®/Impact does not require root user access. It is recommended to run the installer as a non-root user.

Before installing Impact on AIX, Linux, Solaris, or zLinux systems, you must install bash.

On Windows systems, the user ID that is used for the installation must have administrator permissions to be able to create a Windows Service entry.

Restriction: There is a known limitation on Windows, that you cannot successfully install Netcool/Impact under an administrator account that has national characters in its name. For the installation use an administrator account with a name that consists only of ASCII characters, for example impact_administrator.

Locale

Note: On Unix systems, the locale must be set to a UTF-8 setting. Use locale-a to view all available options. For example, if installing on a Japanese system, set the locale using the following command:

set LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8

The install will fail if ja_JP is used instead of ja_JP.UTF-8.

Overcoming space issues during installation or upgrade

If you need to set the java.io.tmpdir property due to space issues on the /tmp directory, you must use the environmental variable as shown below:

export IBM_JAVA_OPTIONS='-Djava.io.tmpdir=/opt/IBM/tmp'

WebGUI

For details about what Impact version is compatible with WebGUI, see: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/netcoolomnibus/8.1?topic=upgrade-web-gui-installation-prerequisites
