Installing and configuring Red Hat Enterprise Linux

As a system administrator, install and configure Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system.

Each Ready Node requires Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) operating system (OS) installation and configuration to support IBM Storage Ceph installation and operation.

Site allowlists

Your data center network must allow access between Ready Nodes and external repositories to install Red Hat Enterprise Linux OS on each Ready Node. Any associated facility firewall must be updated for the allowlist. The following list also includes external sites for IBM Storage Ceph installation and IBM support and are included here for completeness.
  • registry.redhat.io

  • cdn.redhat.com

  • subscription.rhsm.redhat.com

  • icr.io

  • cp.icr.io

  • public.dhe.ibm.com

For information on firewall allowlist, see Red Hat Subscription Manager (RHSM).
Note: The allowlist may require additional sites to support moving service-oriented data to an IBM service repository. See the Service support section. The following site provides the IBM ECuRep secure HTTPS upload sites.

For more information, see Service support.

Installation and basic configuration

Follow the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) operating system (OS) installation and configuration instructions that are detailed here:
Important: Red Hat Enterprise Linux OS must be installed on the mirrored M.2 boot (OS) SSDs.
Installing the Service Manager

Install the Service Manager. This provides RHEL operating system information to the Ready Node management dashboard. The contents of the following link describe the Service Manager functions. A video on "How to install the iDRAC Service Module via iDRAC GUI" is included. See Dell iDRAC Service Module (iSM) for more information.
