Backing up IBM Storage FlashSystem volumes

Use an IBM® Storage Defender Data Protect cluster to back up IBM Storage FlashSystem volumes and volume groups in a protection group that can run repetitively on a schedule.

About this task

To back up IBM Storage FlashSystem volumes and volume groups, the Data Protect clusters must be running version 7.1.0 or a later version. For additional requirements, see IBM Storage Defender: IBM Storage FlashSystem requirements.

Note: To access the Data Protect reference information, you must authenticate by using IBMid credentials that are associated with your IBM Storage Defender tenant account.

Procedure

Follow the instructions in the Data Protect User Guide to complete the following high-level steps:

  1. In the Data Protect management interface, navigate to Data Protection > Sources > Register > SAN and register the IBM Storage FlashSystem as a data protection source.
  2. Create a SAN protection group by navigating to Data Protection > Protection > Protect > SAN. Select the IBM Storage FlashSystem volumes or volume groups that you want to protect.
