IBM Storage Defender Data Management Service (DMS) is a component within IBM Storage Defender. DMS is a cloud-based, Software as a Service (SaaS) solution that allows the central management of your secondary data protection environments. This cloud-based portal accesses telemetry about your environment while the data stays on premises, in the cloud, and in your hybrid data center environment. IBM Storage Defender ensures that you are in control of your data by bringing simple, efficient, and compelling tools that help you manage both the storage and the cyber-resiliency needs of the data.
IBM Storage Defender Data Management Service (DMS) is an optional component. It is possible to deploy and use IBM Storage Defender Data Protect and other components independently. DMS simplifies the environment by federating the IBM Storage Defender Data Protect clusters by using a unified control plane in the cloud. This simplification makes it simple and easy to see the status of your backups and to manage those environments.

IBM Storage Defender Data Resiliency Service (DRS) is an optional component within IBM Storage Defender. DRS is a combination of cloud based, Software as a Service (SaaS) managed by IBM and an agent that manages communications from your data center. The data center agent that is called a Connection Manager, which collects telemetry about your primary and secondary data while the data itself says on premises. The agent telemetry communicated to the DRS helps you to plan, secure, and recover the data that is important to you.
