Overview

IBM® DataPower® Gateway, formerly known as IBM DataPower SOA Appliances, serves as the enterprise-grade, field-proven, security-rich API gateway. The DataPower Gateway is available in physical, virtual, cloud, Linux®, and Docker form factors.

The DataPower Gateway is a single multichannel gateway that helps provide security, control, integration, and optimized access. These capabilities apply to a full range of mobile, web, application programming interface (API), service-oriented architecture (SOA), B2B, and cloud workloads. The capabilities help you to rapidly expand the scope of valuable IT assets to new channels that provide customers, employees, and partners with access to critical resources.

The Map Designer provides the features to build and test maps that you can run on, and deploy to IBM DataPower Gateway.

How the Map Designer works with DataPower Gateway

Using the Map Designer, you can create maps that ultimately serve as executable programs designed to transform and route data. From the Map Designer, you test the maps on, and deploy them to the IBM DataPower Gateway, the gateway runs the executable maps, and then returns the results back to the Map Designer.

Getting started with DataPower Gateway

To get started using the Map Designer with the DataPower runtime option, use the following high-level task list in a preproduction phase.
  • Configure your project to create DataPower maps by default, and enable the functions that are supported for IBM DataPower Gateway.
  • Configure the Map Designer for an IBM DataPower Gateway.
  • Define the structure of your data using the Type Designer and use the resulting schemas to create your DataPower maps.
  • Build the DataPower maps with the map run time set to DataPower.
  • Test the DataPower maps in the Map Designer.
  • Deploy the DataPower maps to be processed to IBM DataPower Gateway.

    When your maps are ready for production, after you deploy the maps to IBM DataPower Gateway, there are additional tasks to complete using the DataPower Gateway user interface.
