Alert Details Widget
The Alert Details widget provides Information regarding alert severity, occurrences with time, and message output. Perform the steps below to configure settings for the Alert Details widget.
Data
The Data tab enables you to select resources for which you want to view the alert details.
Perform the following steps to set the widget settings for Data tab.
- For datasource and resource type settings, please refer to section Select Widget
Resources in section Create. Important:
Resource Type, Object, allows you to search on object description, device display name, and plugin.ObjectName. You must enter a string in double-quotes. Search can also be performed on a word. You may enter one or more strings/words in Resource Type > Object.
Example# 1
If you enter "IP of device" echo CPU196640, these are 3 key terms to search on. All objects containing IP of device, echo, and CPU196640 will be available to choose from.
IP of device is in double-quotes as the search is on all words with space in between. A string can have one or more spaces in it.
Example# 2
If you enter IP of device echo CPU196640, these are 5 key terms to search on. All objects containing IP, of, device, echo, and CPU196640 will be available to choose from.
Example# 3
If you enter CPU, all objects containing CPU will be available to choose from. It can return objects such as CPU196640, CPU196632, etc. - In the Result limit field, enter the number of results to display.
Important: Result limit must be between 1 to 10,000. Limits greater than 200 can impact performance.
- Click Run to generate an Alert Details report based on the configuration.Note: Run button is only available when one or more fields are changed in the Data tab.
Example
Analyze
The Analyze tab enables you to define settings for the data you retrieve and to use data analysis features.
Perform the following steps to set the widget settings for Analyze tab.
- Under AGGREGATION, select one of the following options:
- None - to not apply aggregation.
- Device - to apply aggregation at the device level.
- Device Group - to apply aggregation at the device group level.
- Object Group - to apply aggregation at the object group level.
- By default, timespan / time zone selected is All Time New_York. Click the button to
change the timespan / timezone. Select one of the following options:
- Past n hours, days, weeks, months, quarter, year - to display data from <n> hours, days, weeks, months, quarter, or year ago until now.
- Today - to display data from 12:00am today until now.
- Yesterday - to display data from 12:00am yesterday until 12:00am today.
- Last week, month, quarter, year - to display data from 12:00am on the first day of the last completed week, month, quarter, or year to 11:59pm on the last day of the last completed week, month, quarter, or year.
- This week, month, quarter, year - to display data from 12:00am on the first day of the week, month, quarter, or year until now.
- Customize the time span with From and To date / time.
- Click Select button to choose the modified timespan / time zone.
Filter
The Filter tab enables you to apply filters to display the results.
Perform the following steps to set the widget settings for Filter tab.
- Click the Attribute drop-down and select one of the following options.
- Alert ID - to filter results by the alert ID.
- Click the Operator drop-down and select Equals to display results that match the value you specify. Select Not equals to display results that do not match the value you specify.
- In the Value field, specify an alert ID.
- Alert Status - to filter results by the alert status.
- Click the Operator drop-down and select Equals to display results that match the value you specify. Select Not equals to display results that do not match the value you specify.
- Click the Value drop-down and select one of the following options:
- Open - to apply the filter to open alerts.
- Closed - to apply the filter to closed alerts.
- Both - to apply the filter to both open and closed alerts.
- Alert Type - to filter results by the alert type.
- Click the Operator drop-down and select Equals to display results that match the value you specify. Select Not equals to display results that do not match the value you specify.
- Click the Value drop-down and select one of the following options:
- Traps - to apply the filter to traps.
- Alerts - to apply the filter to alerts.
- Flow - to apply the filter to flow.
- Assignee User - to filter results by the user the alert is assigned to.
- Click the Operator drop-down and select Equals to display results that match the value you specify. Select Not equals to display results that do not match the value you specify.
- Click the Value drop-down and select either a user or Unassigned.
- Device Name - to filter results by the device name.
- Click the Operator drop-down and select Contains to display results that contain the value you specify. Select Doesn't contain to display results that do not contain the value you specify.
- In the Value field, enter complete or part of the device name.
- Message - to filter results by the alert message.
- Click the Operator drop-down and select Contains to display results that contain the value you specify. Select Doesn't contain to display results that do not contain the value you specify.
- In the Value field, enter complete or part of an alert message.
- Policy ID - to filter results by policy ID that triggered the alert.
- Click the Operator drop-down and select Equals to display results that match the value you specify. Select Not equals to display results that do not match the value you specify.
- In the Value field, specify a policy ID.
- Policy Name - to filter results by policy name that triggered the alert.
- Click the Operator drop-down and select Equals to display results that match the value you specify. Select Not equals to display results that do not match the value you specify.
- In the Value field, specify a policy name.
- Severity - to filter results by the alert severity level.
- Click the Operator drop-down and select Equals to display results that match the value you specify. Select Not equals to display results that do not match the value you specify.
- Click the Value drop-down and select an alert severity level (Emergency, Alert, Critical, Error, Warning, Notice, Info, Debug).
- Show Ignored - to filter results by whether alerts have or haven't been ignored.
- Click the Operator drop-down and select Equals to display results that match the value you specify. Select Not equals to display results that do not match the value you specify.
- Click the Value drop-down and select one of the following options:
- Yes - If you selected Equals, this displays ignored alerts. If you selected Not equals, this omits ignored alerts.
- No - If you selected Equals, this omits ignored alerts. If you selected Not equals, this displays ignored alerts.
- Threshold ID - to filter results by the ID of the threshold that triggered the alert.
- Click the Operator drop-down and select Equals to display results that match the value you specify. Select Not equals to display results that do not match the value you specify.
- In the Value field, specify a threshold ID.
- Threshold Name - to filter results by the threshold name.
- Click the Operator drop-down and select Equals to display results that match the value you specify. Select Not equals to display results that do not match the value you specify.
- In the Value field, enter complete or part of the threshold name.
- Alert ID - to filter results by the alert ID.
- Click Add to add the new filter. The filters you add appear under the Add/Remove buttons.
- To remove any filter(s) from the list, select the check box for filter(s) you would like to remove and click Remove.
Linking
The Linking tab enables you to select a data element and link it to a related report or report template. Perform the following steps to add, delete, and edit links.
Perform the following steps to set the widget settings for Linking tab.
- Include report links allows report consumers to click on a data element such as, device name, and link it to the related report. Enable to include the report link that you configure. If you want to prevent the report link from being included, disable it. Continue with the steps below to configure report link(s).
- By default, Report Link <#> is enabled.Note: If you wish to exclude the report link, disable Report Link <#>.
- Use the Clicking on drop-down to select a data item that you want to link with the report
or report template. When you select a data item for a report link, that data item is no longer
listed as an option for other report links as it has already been used. You can apply multiple
reports/report templates to the selected data item. For example,
- Device ID - the device ID.
- Device Name - the device name.
- Object ID - the object ID.
- Object Name - the object name.
- Object Group ID - the object group ID.
- Object Group Name - the object group name.
- Device Group ID - the device group ID.
- Device Group Name - the device group name.
- Device Description - the device description.
- IP Address - the IP address of the device that the alert applies to.
- Click the Links to report drop-down and select one or more reports or report templates to display when you click on the data item that you specified in the previous step.
- To remove the report link, click .
- To create additional report link(s), click .
Charts
The Charts tab enables you to define how you want to display the report data.
Visualizations
The charts provide Table visualization only.
Table
The Table visualization displays the data as a table. Perform the following steps to set the widget settings for the Table visualization.
- Select the Table visualization by clicking
- TITLE
- Enable Show title to enter the title name in the text field provided and display it in report. Else, disable it.
- Enable Show subtitle to enter the sub-title name in the text field provided and display it in the report. Else, disable it.
- COLUMNS & CELLS
- By enabling Show search bar, the search capability is available to perform a search in the table. Disable it if you do not want the search capability. If Show search bar is enabled, you may click to allow Search by column.
- Enable Allow column reordering to allow the columns that display in the report to be reordered. Else, disable it.
- Enable Allow showing/hiding columns to allow columns in the report to be hidden and unhidden. If you choose, you may disable it.
- Enable Wrap cell content to wrap long text in a data row so that all text displays. Disable it to display as much text as fits into the cell with ellipses to indicate there is more text.
- Enable Abbreviate numbers to abbreviate large numbers. Examples of large integer
abbreviation are:
- 5000 becomes 5K
- 5000000 becomes 5M
To abbreviate large decimal numbers, you must enter the data precision in the Precision field. To do this, follow the steps below:
- Abbreviate numbers field must be enabled.
- Precision field is now available.
- Enter the data precision in the Precision field. For example, enter 4.
- The values displayed in widget preview will now display data with the data precision entered.
Examples of large decimal number abbreviation are:
- 20.12345 will display as 20.1234 when Precision = 4
- 20.12345 will display as 20.12 when Precision = 2
- 20.14912 will display as 20.15 when Precision = 2 NOTE: Number is rounded.
Note: Disable Abbreviate numbers field if you do not want to abbreviate large numbers.
- COLUMN SELECTION
Select the check boxes to display the selected fields as data columns in the table. The names in the second column are the names for the columns that appear in the report. You may modify the names in the second column to your choice.
Important: If you select one or more rows, Actions becomes available. Select one of the options from Actions drop-down list.
- Acknowledge - allows you to acknowledge the selected alert(s). For example, select rows
with device names, Boston, Cairo, HTTPDevice 3, and ICMPDevice 3.
- You may enter an alert acknowledgement message.
- Click Acknowledge. Important: Alert acknowledgement message, if added, will appear in the report's clearMessage column. clearMessage column can be chosen from COLUMN SELECTION section under tab Charts > visualization Table.Important: Alerts acknowledged, are closed. To view the closed alerts, add a filter. Click Filter tab.
- Set field Attribute to Alert Status.
- Set field Operator to Equals.
- Set field Value to Closed.
Click Add. You will now see the acknowledged alerts in the list of alerts closed.
- Ignore - allows you to ignore the selected alert(s) for the amount of time selected to
ignore the alert. For example, select row with device name, Boston.
- Enter the amount of time you want to ignore the alert. For example, 1 minute.
- You may enter an alert ignore message.
- Click Ignore. Important: Alert ignore message, if added, will appear in the report's ignoreMessage column. ignoreMessage column can be chosen from COLUMN SELECTION section under tab Charts > visualization Table.
- Alert for device name, SNMPDevice 1, will be removed from the list for 1 minute (as set in this example). After 1 minute or the amount of time selected, the alert will re-appear in the list.
- Assign - allows you to assign the selected alert(s) to a user. For example, select row
with device name, IPSLADevice 1.
- From the drop-down list, select a user to assign the alert to.
- You may enter a message for the user.
- Click Assign. Important: From COLUMN SELECTION section under tab Charts > visualization Table,
- choose assignedTo. This column will appear in the report. It will provide the information to which user the selected alert is assigned to.
- choose comment. This column will appear in the report. It will contain the message, if added, for the user.
- Comment - allows you to add a comment to the selected alert(s). For example, select row
with device name, IPSLADevice 1.
Important: Comment, if added, will appear in the report's comment column. comment column can be chosen from COLUMN SELECTION section under tab Charts > visualization Table.If the comment entered is a URL, for example, http://www.google.com, the URL link can be clicked, and it opens in a new tab of your web browser.
- Acknowledge - allows you to acknowledge the selected alert(s). For example, select rows
with device names, Boston, Cairo, HTTPDevice 3, and ICMPDevice 3.
