Monitoring license usage in IBM Process Mining
IBM Process Mining on premises relies on IBM® License Metric Tool for license usage monitoring, so as a requirement, your organization must have the IBM® License Metric Tool installed in its IT environment. IBM Process Mining reports usage information to the Licensing Service through the following metrics:
| Element | Metric | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Platform | INSTALL | Corresponds to the process mining platform. Reported by the tool with a value of 1. When purchasing the Platform, you are entitled to use 3 projects, 1 analyst user, 3 business users, and 20 million events. |
| Projects | PROJECT | Corresponds to additional projects that are used in addition to the 3 projects entitled by purchasing the Platform. |
| Business user | AUTHORIZED_USER | Corresponds to additional business users that are used in addition to the 3 business users available by purchasing the Platform. |

BigFix® is a client-based endpoint management platform that forms the basis for License Metric Tool. It provides a mechanism for running fixlets and tasks that are used to perform actions on selected computers. The solution is supported end-to-end by IBM. You can configure it to automatically scan and upload the results to the IBM License Metric Tool server. If you are uncertain about the initial configuration or installation of BigFix®, refer to the complete documentation on Installing and configuring (BigFix scenario) .
Properly set up the data collection of software and capacity data from all IBM Process Mining on premises server computers you want to monitor, refer to Setting up data collection (BigFix scenario) for details on how to schedule the scan and upload of data to the License Metric Tool, as well as on how to manually scan and upload the data to the License Metric Tool.
You can review all data that is uploaded to the License Metric Tool on the License Metric Tool reports.
Using a disconnected scanner
Disconnected scans allow for discovering software and hardware inventory by running scripts that are provided in the disconnected scanner package. The scripts initiate software and capacity scans, and create a package with scan results that you later need to upload to the License Metric Tool server.
The disconnected scanner is an independent, well-defined component that is used by License Metric Tool. Software and capacity scans collect data that is later on displayed on the License Metric Tool reports.
Properly set up the data collection of software and capacity data from all IBM Process Mining on premises server computers you want to monitor, refer to Setting up data collection (disconnected scenario). You need to install the disconnected scanner on every computer that has IBM Process Miningon premises server installed.
After you install the disconnected scanner, set up data collection and gather scan results from all IBM Process Mining on premises server computers you want to monitor. You can set up daily transfer of scan results to the License Metric Tool server, refer to Setting up daily transfer of scan results to the License Metric Tool server (disconnected scenario) . Review all data that is uploaded to the License Metric Tool on the License Metric Tool reports.
