Upgrading the Cloud Extender to use the enhanced messaging service

Information about upgrading the Cloud Extender installer (core agent), Base module, and Cloud Extender Configuration Tool to version 3.000.700 or later.

You must upgrade the Cloud Extender to use the enhanced messaging service between Cloud Extender and MaaS360 for better performance and security.

Important:
  • The IBM MaaS360 Cloud Extender version 3.000.700 is supported only on Windows Server 2016 or later.
  • Upgrade the Windows operating system version to Windows Server 2016 or later before upgrading the Cloud Extender version to 3.000.700 or later.

Prerequisites for upgrading Cloud Extender version to 3.000.700

  • Ensure that you have upgraded the Windows operating system version to the Windows Server 2016 or later.
  • Ensure that you have enabled Auto Update under Settings in the Cloud Extender® Configuration Tool.

    To confirm that you are running the new Cloud Extender Configuration Tool, see Using the Cloud Extender Configuration Tool.

  • Ensure that the following modules are upgraded to 3.000.700 or later on all Cloud Extenders:
    • Cloud Extender Base
    • MaaS360 Configuration Utility
    • Realtime Action Module
    To check the module version,
    1. Log in to the MaaS360® Portal with your administrator credentials.
    2. Select Setup > Cloud Extender. The Summary page is displayed.

      Navigate to the Modules section and check the version for the following modules:

  • Ensure that the Cloud Extender can reach the following URLs to connect from the MaaS360 Portal to the Cloud Extender cloud instance:
    • https://mpnsv2.m1.maas360.com
    • https://mpnsv2.m2.maas360.com
    • https://mpnsv2.m3.maas360.com
    • https://mpnsv2.m4.maas360.com
    • https://mpnsv2.m6.maas360.com
    Note: It is applicable only if a firewall/proxy is configured.

Upgrading to Cloud Extender version 3.000.700 or later

Important: Back up the Cloud Extender configuration files to another directory besides the Cloud Extender directory. For example, a new folder named as C:\CloudExtenderBackup.
You can upgrade the Cloud Extender core agent in the following ways:
  • Download a new core agent installer from the MaaS360 Portal.
    1. Download the Cloud Extender Configuration Tool and license key. To download the Cloud Extender Configuration Tool and license key, see Downloading the license key and the Cloud Extender software.
    2. Install the Cloud Extender software. To install the Cloud Extender software, see Installing the Cloud Extender software.
    3. Review the minimum system requirements for Cloud Extender. For more information about Cloud Extender system requirements, see Cloud Extender and Mobile Enterprise Gateway (MEG) module system requirements.
  • You can upgrade from the Cloud Extender Configuration Tool by using the Upgrade function:
    1. Run the Cloud Extender Configuration Tool. After the Internet test check finishes, a web service call determines the agent's current GA version and the installer download's location. If a new core Cloud Extender agent is available, a yellow flag is displayed on the Cloud Extender Configuration Tool toolbar:

    2. Click the yellow flag. The Confirm Upgrade message is displayed.
    3. Click Yes to confirm the upgrade and download the installation package to a temporary location. When the download is complete, the Cloud Extender Configuration Tool starts the core agent installer and closes the tool.

      A confirmation message is displayed to restart your system to take effect new changes. Click Yes.

      • If the upgrade is successful, you can check the status in the Cloud Extender Configuration Tool. From the Cloud Extender Configuration Tool, select Help > Status. The Status window displays the following version numbers if you have successfully upgraded the Cloud Extender installer and modules to Cloud Extender version 3.000.700 or later:
