Installing the IBM Developer for z/OS client and a license by using p2

Learn how to install the Developer for z/OS® client by using the Eclipse p2 provisioning platform, and how to install an Authorized User license or configure a floating license.

Procedure

  1. Open a browser on the Mainframe DEV Downloads page.
    If you are prompted with a notice that you are leaving the ibm.com website, click the link in the notice.
  2. In the IBM Explorer for z/OS Aqua box, click Eclipse Tools.
    You might need to click > or < to scroll the box into view.
  3. Under Step 1: choose your products, select the check box beside IBM® Developer for z/OS and click Select.
  4. Continue to follow the instructions in the wizard prompts to choose an Aqua version, the Eclipse p2 installation client, and a starting point.
    Tip:
    • To see which product versions each version of Aqua supports, click View details.
    • To return to a previous step in the wizard, click the step in the sidebar. Do not use the browser Back control. The Back control returns to the Mainframe DEV Downloads page.

    After you select an Aqua version, the Eclipse p2 installation client, and a starting point, the installation wizard guides you through the steps to download and install the client. These instructions vary according to whether you are:
    • Installing Eclipse for the first time.
    • Extending an existing Eclipse instance.
    • Hosting an internal p2 repository that other users in your organization can use to install the product.
  5. Follow the instructions on the Download and install page to:
    • Choose a client platform (Windows, MacOS, or Linux)
    • Download an installation package
    • Copy a link to an installation repository
    • Install the product or set up an internal repository
    The license agreement opens in a new web page.
  6. Read the terms of the license agreements and click I agree.
    The client installation package is downloaded to the default download location of your workstation.
  7. Return to the Download and install page to complete the installation procedure described in the wizard.

Installing a license

About this task

Developer for z/OS is installed with a trial license, which enables product use for 90 days. To use the product beyond the 90 day trial period, you must use z/OS-based licensing, install a permanent Authorized User license, or configure the product to use a floating license. Authorized User license

Procedure

  1. Obtain a product activation kit from the system administrator who manages product licenses at your site.
    The product activation kit is available in Passport Advantage. An activation kit is a .zip file that is installed into Developer for z/OS to activate the product for an authorized user. The activation kit must be in a location on your computer or on a file server or network location that you can point to from Developer for z/OS.
  2. Start the Developer for z/OS application.
  3. From the Developer for z/OS menu bar, select Help > Install New Software.
  4. On the Install Available Software window, click Add.
  5. On the Add Repository window, click Archive.
  6. On the Repository archive window, select the activation kit .zip file and then click Open.
  7. On the Add Repository window, click Add.
  8. On the Install Available Software window, select the IBM Developer for z/OS Permanent Activation Kit check box and then click Next.
  9. On the Install Details window, click Next.
  10. On the Review Licenses window, read the license agreement, select I accept the terms of the license agreement, and then click Finish.
  11. On the Security Warning window, click OK.
  12. When the Software Updates window opens, click Yes to restart the product with the permanent license.

Floating license

Procedure

To configure the product to use a floating license:

  1. From the Developer for z/OS menu bar, select Help > Manage Licenses.
  2. On the Manage Licenses window, click Apply License.
  3. On the Configure Floating License window, click Enable floating license enforcement, and then click Add icon, the Add icon.
  4. On the Add Server window, enter the IP address or hostname of your license key server in the Name field and the port number in the Port field, and then click OK.
  5. On the Configure Floating License window, click OK.
  6. On the Manage Licenses window, click Refresh License Status, and then click Done.
