Accessing watsonx.data
IBM watsonx.data is an open, hybrid, and governed data store that makes it possible for enterprises to scale analytics and AI with a fit-for-purpose data store. Watsonx.data is built on an open lakehouse architecture, supported by querying, governance, and open data formats to access and share data.
Important: Only the current generation of plans that are hosted on Amazon Web Services
include watsonx.data
support.
With watsonx.data, you can connect to data in minutes, quickly get trusted insights, and reduce your data warehousing costs. Learn more about watsonx.data on the IBM watsonx.data product page.
Db2 can integrate with watsonx.data to share
data across these 2 products, enabling the use of the most appropriate engine for each workload. By
using the Db2 and watsonx.data integration
feature, it is possible to:
- Import a Hive or Iceberg table defined in watsonx.data into Db2 as a Datalake table
- Create a Datalake Iceberg table in both the Db2 and the watsonx.data Iceberg catalog with a single SQL statement.
- Create a Datalake Hive table in both the Db2 and the watsonx.data Iceberg catalog with a single SQL statement.
After a table is shared in this way, it’s possible to SELECT and INSERT from both Db2 and watsonx.data. However, schema evolution and table modifications can only be issued through watsonx.data.
