Installing the VS Code extension package on your workstation

COBOL Upgrade Advisor for z/OS consists of a z/OS host server installation package and a VS Code extension installation package. This section refers to information on the VS Code extension installation package, that needs to be installed on your local machine.

Installing the VS Code extension

You will need the VS Code extension installation package from the Passport Advantage download of COBOL Upgrade Advisor for z/OS.

  1. Unzip the package to find the cobol-upgrade-advisor-1.1.vsix file.
  2. Open VS Code. In the ellipses menu of the Extension tab, select Install from VSIX.

    This opens your file explorer.

  3. Select the cobol-upgrade-advisor-1.1.vsix file, and select Install.

    This installs the COBOL Upgrade Advisor for z/OS VS Code extension.

Installing VS Code extension updates

For users looking to upgrade to the latest version of the COBOL Upgrade Advisor for z/OS VS Code extension package, check Fix Central and install the latest update.

Note: It is recommended to uninstall the old vsix file before installing the latest version.
