Setting the version of the Java runtime

The version of Java which a CICS® JVM server uses is configured by using the JAVA_HOME JVM server profile option.

About this task

1. Install a supported version of Java™ on z/OS®.
   CICS supports the following choice of Java versions:
   • Java 21 Installing IBM Semeru Runtime Certified Edition for z/OS, Version 21
   • Java 17 Installing IBM Semeru Runtime Certified Edition for z/OS, Version 17
   • Java 11 Installing IBM Semeru Runtime Certified Edition for z/OS, Version 11
   • Java 8 Installing IBM 64-bit SDK for z/OS, Java Technology Edition, Version 8

   6.3 Support for Java 8 and Java 11 is removed as of CICS TS 6.3.

2. When you set up a JVM server, set the JAVA_HOME option to the location of your installed IBM® Java SDK.
