Concepts
You can find information on how to get started with different areas of IBM Storage
FlashSystem. These topics explain the concepts and describe all areas in detail.
System monitoring
The following topics describe how to monitor the system.
Pools
A pool or storage pool is an amount of capacity that is allocated to volumes that are created in that pool.
Volumes
A volume is a logical disk that the system presents to attached hosts.
Hosts
A host system is a server that is connected to the storage system through supported connection protocols.
Host attachment
This topic describes configuration activities to enable hosts to access volumes and use host-based solutions to manage the storage system.
Policies
A policy defines a set of rules that can be used to simplify storage management. The system supports several different types of policies.
Replication
Policy-based replication can be used to implement high availability and disaster recovery solutions between systems in different locations.
Access
The Access menu in the GUI maintains who can log in to the system, defines the access rights to the user, and tracks what was done by each privileged user to the system.
FlashSystem grid
A FlashSystem grid can be used to scale-out a storage system by adding more independent systems to create a federated cluster.
Storage partitions
A storage partition groups the configuration for one or more applications that need to be managed together.
Data migration
This topic describes methods to migrate data.
Stretched systems
A stretched system is an extended high availability (HA) method that is supported by SAN Volume Controller systems to enable I/O operations to continue after the loss of half of the system.
Legacy copy services
Starting from 8.7.1, policy-based replication and policy-based high availability replace the remote-copy function. Additionally, volume group snapshot supersedes the FlashCopy function.
Notifications
The system supports the use of Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) traps, syslog messages, and Call Home emails to notify you and IBM Support Center when significant events are detected.
Network
The system relies on a combination of network infrastructure and connectivity technologies to facilitate data storage, retrieval, and management.
Cyber resilience
Security
IBM Storage Virtualize based storage systems are secure storage platforms that implement various security-related features for both system-level security and data-level security.
System
A system consists of one or more I/O groups. Each I/O group contains two nodes. In enclosure-based systems, a control enclosure is an I/O group.
Support
The system provides several options to help you to identify and resolve problems that may require assistance from service support personnel.
