Overview of Batch Uploading

A batch upload definition file consists of fields and defining attributes for the records. In Emptoris® Virtual Supply Master, any user with the appropriate permissions can view, define, and edit the batch upload definitions. After the attributes or fields are defined, you can add data and upload the batch files in the format or fields specified.

Batch files can be uploaded in the following file formats:

For more information about the permissions required for batch uploading, see Emptoris Virtual Supply Master Permissions.

Notes:
  • Ensure that the batch upload file contains data only in the UTF-8 format. This is because, data that is not encoded in the UTF-8 format cannot be rendered in the user interface, and can cause the user interface to become unresponsive.
  • The Microsoft Excel spreadsheet that would contain the data for bulk uploading must have the data in a single spreadsheet. Multiple spreadsheets are not supported for a bulk upload file. Commas cannot be used as data separators, but can be used to separate multiple values in the data.
  • The .csv file must be saved with UTF-8 encoding for special and multi-byte characters to import correctly.
  • In the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet file, every numeric value, such as zip code or phone number, must be preceded by an apostrophe, for example, '9781112222. The apostrophe is removed during import.
  • Batch Upload definitions can be run only in the language that it is created. You can not create the definition in one language and run it in some other language.
  • In the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet file, the date format must not begin with an asterisk (*). For example, the date format must be 4/30/2015, not *4/30/2015.
