Private Headers and Trailers
Private Header Records and Private Trailer Records, proprietary records of IBM Sterling B2B Integration SaaS, create a private interchange envelope. The envelope marks the beginning and end of a private interchange. The interchange contains one or more transaction sets. Each transaction set is a group of free-form records that contain the business data.
The following figure shows the structure of a file that uses private header and trailer records:

The following rules apply to the use of private headers and trailers on non-EDI data:
- Files can be sent with or without private header and trailer records.
- If necessary, B2B Integration SaaS can remove private header and trailer records before delivering the file to the receiver.
- B2B Integration SaaS cannot create private header and trailer records. If receivers need data with these records, senders have to add them to their files.
B2B Integration SaaS can provide additional services for files that use private header and trailer records, including:
- Higher levels of user authentication
- Parsing and auditing like that of standard EDI data
- Access to services such as carbon copy, document tracking, and network reports
