Upgrading data collectors automatically

Enable automatic upgrades to ensure that you always have the most up-to-date collectors with the latest fixes.

Procedure

  1. From the Configuration menu, click Data Collectors.
  2. To enable automatic upgrades, set Automatic Upgrades to On. When new versions of the data collector are available, they are installed without you taking any action.

If a down-level data collector is disconnected and then reconnects later, it's automatically upgraded.

Disabling automatic upgrades: To disable automatic upgrades, set Automatic Upgrades to Off. You must manually upgrade your data collectors when new versions are available.
    Important:

The ability to automatically upgrade a data collector is not used if that data collector failed to automatically upgrade in the past and it was not manually upgraded after that failure.

To restore automatic upgrades and clear the error message on the Data Collectors page, you must manually upgrade your data collectors. To manually upgrade all your data collectors with one click, click Upgrade All. To manually upgrade each data collector individually, use the Upgrade action until all the data collectors are upgraded.

If the manual upgrade is successful, the automatic upgrade option is used the next time the data collector requires an upgrade.

Important: During the data collector upgrade process, the upgrade routine deletes old collector files and directories, except for logs, data, cache, and configuration files. Any user-created directories or custom files placed under the data collector installation directory will be automatically removed during the upgrade.

If you need to store custom files or directories related to the data collector, ensure they are placed outside the data collector installation directory, or back them up before upgrading.
