Upgrading data collectors

To get the latest bug and security fixes, your data collectors are upgraded. IBM® Storage Insights

By default, your data collectors are upgraded automatically to ensure that you're running the current version of the data collector. If the upgrade of a data collector fails and still runs at the previous level, the upgrade process continues to upgrade your other data collectors. However, if the upgrade of a data collector fails and its status is now Missing, your other data collectors continue to collect metadata but are not upgraded. Try to upgrade the data collectors again.

If you don't want your data collectors to be upgraded automatically, you can disable automatic upgrades on the Data Collectors page.

When you upgrade a data collector, the non-disruptive steps run immediately, but the disruptive upgrade scripts are handled more intelligently to ensure that no data collections are stopped or missed. During the process, upgrade_probe_actions.json file is temporarily created in DC/config directory.

The JSON file stores in the information of all the probes that were stopped or missed during the upgrade. The file is deleted after the upgrade process is completed and missed probes started.

Important: During the data collector upgrade process, the upgrade routine deletes old collector files and directories, except for logs, data, cache, and configuration files. Any user-created directories or custom files placed under the data collector installation directory will be automatically removed during the upgrade.

If you need to store custom files or directories related to the data collector, ensure they are placed outside the data collector installation directory, or back them up before upgrading.

To upgrade data collectors and to enable and disable automatic upgrades, you must have the role of an Administrator.
