Pre-installation tasks

Before you install Cloud Pak for Data, complete the following tasks.

Creating projects (namespaces) on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform
Before you install IBM Cloud Pak for Data on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, a cluster administrator should create the OpenShift projects (Kubernetes namespaces) where you plan to deploy the Cloud Pak for Data software.
Changing required node settings
Some services that run on IBM Cloud Pak for Data require specific settings on the nodes in the cluster. To ensure that the cluster has the required settings for these services, an operating system administrator with root privileges must review and adjust the settings on the appropriate nodes in the cluster.
Setting up your registry server
To install Cloud Pak for Data, you must have a registry server where you can host the images for the Cloud Pak for Data control plane and the services that you want to install.
Obtaining the installation files
Before you install Cloud Pak for Data, ensure that the installation files are available on your client system.
Installing prerequisite required components
Some required components must be installed before you install IBM Cloud Pak for Data.
Creating Portworx storage classes
If you decide to use Portworx as your storage option, Cloud Pak for Data requires the following storage classes. You can create them manually.
Preparing for air-gapped installations
If you plan to install IBM Cloud Pak for Data or a service on an air-gapped cluster, a cluster administrator must make the required files available to the cluster before installation.
Setting up the cluster for the control plane
If you plan to install control plane on IBM Cloud Pak for Data, a cluster administrator must set up the cluster for control plane.
