Scenario: Applying pickup cutoffs

This scenario demonstrates how pickup cutoffs impact customer collections and estimated delivery dates for pickup orders. It is important to identify clear rules to manage same day pickup to avoid capacity overload and to maintain accurate promise dates.

Example 1: Defining a pickup without a cutoff

In this example, the following scenario is available:

  • Lead time: 0 minutes
  • Processing time: Not defined
  • Pickup cutoff: Not defined
  • Pickup schedule: 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM
  • Capacity workflow window: 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM
  • Pickup requests: 7:30 AM, 12 noon, and 5:30 PM

Result

  • Order at 7:30 AM: The capacity is not available until 8:00 AM. The earliest pickup is 10:00 AM and the pickup window ends at 8:00 PM.
  • Order at 12 noon or later: The capacity is not available until 1:00 PM. The earliest pickup is 1:00 PM and the pickup window ends at 8:00 PM.
  • Order at 5:30 PM: The capacity workflow window is closed and no capacity is available until 8:00 AM the following day. The earliest pickup is 10:00 AM and the pickup window ends at 8:00 PM.
Note: When an order is received after the capacity window closes, same-day pickup is not possible. The pickup is moved to the next day and the order is fulfilled only if inventory and capacity are available. Then, the estimated delivery date (EDD) also moves to the next day.

Example 2: Defining a pickup with a cutoff

In this example, the following scenario is available:
  • Lead time: 0 minutes
  • Processing time: 1 hour
  • Notification time: Not defined
  • Capacity window: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Pickup cutoff: 12:30 PM
Result
  • Order at 10:00 AM: The processing time starts at 10:00 AM for one hour. The pickup schedule is not defined so the order can be picked up from 11:00 AM to midnight.
  • Order at 2:00 PM: The order is placed after the cutoff at 12:30 PM. The capacity window starts at 1:00 PM and the processing time starts at 2:00 PM. The order can be picked up at 3:00 PM but as the request came in after the cutoff time, it isn't available for pickup until after midnight from 00:00 hours to 23:59 hours the next day.
Note: When an order is received after the cutoff, same day pickup is not allowed. The pickup and EDD both move to the next day and the order is fulfilled only if there is sufficient inventory and capacity available.

Key rules across all scenarios

The following rules apply to all scenarios:
  • Pickup cutoffs can ensure that any orders that are placed after the cutoff are not fulfilled on the same day and they are deferred to the next day.
  • The EDD and Checkout Assignment APIs respect all constraints such as, lead time, inventory, capacity windows, cutoff, and processing time.
