Monitoring the appliance

There are a variety of methods for monitoring appliance activity, including by using the web console, the command line, or the Call Home feature.

System self-monitoring
System health evaluation is performed by Policy Engine running on the Hub. The evaluation is based on a set of rules called policies.
Appliance certificates monitoring
With Integrated Analytics System 1.0.31.0, an optional policy for monitoring system certificates was introduced. Platform management collects data about various certificates used within the appliance (both platform and application side) and can provide alerts when a certificate is about to expire or is already expired.
Monitoring the appliance with the web console
In the web console for Db2® Warehouse, you can explore the appliance overall status, including hardware, software, database, and system metrics.
Monitoring the appliance using the command line
When logged into the appliance though a terminal session, you can use the following commands to check the status of specified components or areas.
Monitoring by using the Call Home feature
The Integrated Analytics System includes Call Home capabilities which can be configured and enabled at your direction (preferably as part of the initial appliance installation). Call Home supports both creation of service requests for specific errors and events as well as the regular reporting of status and appliance health.
Monitoring workloads
Use the Monitor > Workloads pages to explore data workload information such as time of execution, data distribution, database time breakdown, SQL execution, transaction rates, statements, and more.
Managing alerts in Integrated Analytics System
The appliance platform manager comes with a set of policies that are used to detect problems in the system, based on the monitoring data of hardware and software components. The policies determine which recovery actions are taken to restore system health. Sometimes the optimal health cannot be restored automatically and user attention is required. In such cases, you can define which action should be taken by the system.
Enabling the SNMP interface to retrieve hardware information
You can configure Platform Manager to send hardware metrics and other details to any data center management system via SNMP interface.
Retrieving platform state information with SNMP
This task describes how to retrieve IAS hardware and software registries, opened and closed issues, and events using SNMP. snmpget, snmptable, and snmpwalk are used to retrieve IAS state.
