Encryption support

Encryption provides security and protects sensitive data on tape media.

With Tivoli® Storage Manager for Storage Area Networks, you can use encryption with the following drives:

IBM® and HP LTO-4 or later
IBM 3592 generation 2 and later
IBM TS1120 generation and later
Oracle StorageTek T10000B
Oracle StorageTek T10000C

You can also use client-side encryption and the Tivoli Storage Manager automatically generated password.

When LTO-4 encryption is enabled, Tivoli Storage Manager manages data encryption and decryption according to specifications set when you define the LTO device class. To enable drive encryption with IBM LTO-4, you must have the IBM RMSS Ultrium device driver installed. IBM LTO-4 SCSI drives do not support encryption.
