Viewing factor details

Check which factors in the catalog are most appropriate for calculating emissions for your activity type. For example, you might want to select a factor for better accuracy based on your region. When you retrieve the factor, you can view its details and ID. You can use factor IDs to run custom calculations.

About this task

You can calculate emissions by using the factor that is automatically selected for you, or you can specify the factor that you want the calculation to use. To specify the factor, you need to know the unique factor ID. You can find the ID in three ways:

Procedure

  1. Enter activity data.
    • If you are using your own spreadsheet, enter activity data.
    • If you are using the Excel template, open the Factor sheet and specify the following data:
    1. In the Type column, select the name of the fuel or energy source that is used, such as diesel, natural gas, or coal.
    2. In the Unit column, select the measurement unit, such as MMBtu or kWh.
    3. In the Country column, select the location.
Refer to the Country codes sheet in the Excel template.
    4. Optional: In the State Province column, enter the state, province, or regional subdivision within the country of activity.
    5. Optional: In the Date column, enter the period of activity in the format YYYY-MM-DD.
If you do not specify a date, the calculation uses today's date.
  2. Use the formula to see the details of the factor.
    • If you are using your own spreadsheet, in an empty cell, start typing =ENVIZI.
    • If you are using the IBM® Emissions API Excel template, in the Factor Set column, start typing =ENVIZI.
  3. When the list appears, select ENVIZI.FACTOR.
    The function is displayed.
  4. Select the cell that contains each value as shown in the formula, followed by a comma.
For example, the first value in the formula is type so you select the cell where you specified the type, then add a comma. Repeat the process for each value in the formula.
  5. When you finish entering values, type a closing parenthesis and press Enter.
You can now see the details of the factor, including the factor ID.

What to do next

Use the factor ID to calculate emissions.
