IMS component codes

Various IMS components issue codes when a problem is encountered. You can use these codes to determine the problem that caused the code to be issued and correct it. Abend codes that are issued by IMS itself are explained in more detail in IMS abend code information.

For many component codes, the following information is provided when applicable:

Explanation
What the component code means; why it occurred; what caused it; what its variable entry fields are.
System action
What is happening as a result of the condition that caused the abend; whether the system is waiting for responses.
Response (Programmer, Operator, User, System Programmer)
If a response is necessary, who performs it; what the pertinent responses are, and their effect on the system or program.
Problem determination
If the problem recurs or is persistent to the extent that system efficiency suffers, what actions and sources of information you can use to diagnose the problem. If this information is not given, it does not apply.

Problem determination usually includes one or more numbers (for example, 4, 6). These numbers are cross-references to a numbered list of problem determination items in IMS problem determination. This topic defines what specific actions and source data are required to solve a given problem.
