Preparing your system to install or migrate to Db2 13

The key to a successful installation or migration of Db2 is planning. Prepare your environment and system before you begin installing or migrating.

Before you begin

Familiarize yourself with the various changes that Db2 13 introduces, as described in Changes to plan for in Db2 13.

Important: Before you can migrate a Db2 12 environment to Db2 13, you must complete premigration activities and activate function level 510 in Db2 12. For more information, see Activate function level 510 in Db2 12.
Tip: After you apply the PTF for APAR PH50072 in Db2 12, you can get a migration readiness report in the DSN7100I message by issuing DISPLAY GROUP command with the DETAIL keyword. The report includes a reason if your environment is not ready for migration to Db2 13. See Check readiness for migration to Db2 13.

In particular, plan to resolve any incompatible changes that might impact your migration to Db2 13. For a summary of such changes, see Incompatible changes for Db2 13 migration or function level activation and Function that Db2 13 no longer supports.

Plan the amount of direct-access storage and virtual storage that you need. Planning and coordinating with other Db2 subsystems is essential if you plan to install the distributed data facility (DDF). Review the values that are needed for the parameters on the installation and migration panels. By planning in advance, your task of filling in the parameters becomes easier.
