You currently have two options for self-hosted installation:

  • Standard Edition

Self-Hosted Standard Edition is the mainstream choice for most customers to use, which has feature parity with the SaaS offering. In addition, you can deploy Standard Edition in air-gapped environments that currently have a single node. For a seamless and enhanced user experience, Standard Edition is the recommended choice for deploying Instana self-hosted. Standard Edition simplifies the deployment process with the stanctl tool, which automates cluster deployment, data store installation, component setup, updates, and other key functions, by reducing the complexity of managing Kubernetes clusters.

  • Custom Edition

Self-Hosted Custom Edition (Kubernetes or Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform) is tailored for extra large-scale implementations. Deploying and managing Custom Edition at scale requires a team with experience (or willing to develop it) in the deployment, maintenance and optimization of Kubernetes, and scalable data store administration and management.
