Managing device groups in the IBM MaaS360 Portal
Deploy policies, apps, or documents to a group of devices in the IBM® MaaS360® Portal.

| Public | Groups that are visible to all administrators. |
| Private | Groups that are visible only to the administrator who created the group. |
Procedure
- From the IBM
MaaS360 Portal home page, select
Devices > Groups. Device groups display the device group icon
, while user groups display the user groups icon
. - Click a link under the name of a group to view the actions available for that
group.
Option Description Delete Deletes the public and private groups. This action is available for private groups, but is not available for device groups with automated actions, or to public groups created by MaaS360 or other administrators. Create Copy Copies the group as a basis for a new group. Buzz Devices Alerts with a tone to help the user locate the device in the immediate area. Hide Devices Sets the devices in the group as inactive in MaaS360 reporting, but does not remove control of the devices from MaaS360. Send Message A notification alert is sent to all devices in the device group. Note: This action supports only iOS, Android, and Windows Phone mobile devices.The Send Message action for BlackBerry devices includes an extra Message Type option. Select the PIN option to send an SMS message or select the Email option to send the alert notification as an email message.
Execute Shell Script The administrators can remotely push shell scripts that run on devices. Push iOS Update Pushes an iOS software update or enforces an iOS software update within a specified time frame on devices in a group. For more information, see Deploying iOS updates in MaaS360.
Note: The enforce iOS update is applicable for Supervised devices with iOS version 17 and later.OS Update History The administrators can track the status of all the OS update actions that are performed on the device group. For more information, see Tracking the OS Update status for device groups. Change Policy Changes the policy that is enforced on the device. Change Rule Set Assigns a compliance rule set to all devices in the device group. Distribute App Distributes an app from the App Catalog to all devices in the group. The app and its configuration can be distributed only if its the same device group. Note: For tvOS devices,- You can distribute apps only by using the Instant Install distribution mode.
- You can distribute apps only with device-based Apple Volume Purchase Program (VPP) licenses.
- Do not distribute iOS apps to tvOS devices and vice versa.
- To distribute apps to tvOS devices in a group, make sure that the group includes only tvOS devices. Do not add any iOS devices to this group.
Distribute Document Distributes a document that is uploaded to IBM MaaS360 to all devices in the group. Remove App Removes an app from the device. Restart iOS Devices Restarts all iOS devices that are in the group. Shutdown iOS Devices Shuts down all iOS devices that are in the group. Change Policy Changes a policy that is assigned to the group of devices. Change Rule set Assigns a compliance rule set to all devices in the device group. Change Plan Assigns a specific plan to devices in the group. This action is available only for devices that are enabled for the MaaS360 Mobile Expense Management (MEM) module. Manage Android Devices Creates one or more device group administrators to manage specific device groups such as device groups with DEP devices or corporate-owned devices. The device group administrators can then distribute apps, assign policies, or assign rule sets to devices. Manage Windows Devices Deploys and removes Office 365 Suite from Windows devices in the device group. - To deploy Office 365 Suite on Windows devices in the
device group, choose from a list of configuration files that you can upload with the Office
Deployment Tool, and click Submit.

- To remove Office 365 Suite from Windows devices in the
device group, choose from a list of configuration files that you can upload to uninstall Office from
devices, and click Submit.

Edit Group Modifies the settings for a group of devices. Note: Depending on the services that are enabled in the IBM MaaS360 Portal, some of these options might not be available.
