Issuing permits to work

To ensure that work is carried out safely, qualified personnel must be authorized to issue permits to work. You also select qualified personnel to do the tasks that are associated with permits to work. In this way, you ensure accountability of the person who issues the permit, and the level of quality.

Before you begin

Before a permit can be issued and accepted, if isolations are specified, they must be verified as being complete. Isolations can protect against potential hazards to people or to equipment. Additionally, the permit to work must be reviewed and approved.

Procedure

  1. In the People application, add the person records. The team members must be authorized to issue a permit to work. The team members must be qualified to do the tasks that are specified in the permit to work.
  2. In the Permit to Work application, select the permit to work that you want to issue.
  3. On the Permit to Work tab, select the permit or the certificate type to associate with this permit to work, and the permit level.
  4. On the Issue and Acceptance tab, specify the details for the person who is issuing the permit to work.
  5. Specify the start date and the finish date for the permit to work, and mark the permit as issued.
  6. Save the record.
  7. Specify the details for the person who is accepting to do the tasks that are associated with the permit to work. The acceptance rows must be marked as accepted.
  8. Save the record.

What to do next

When the permit to work is marked as issued and marked as accepted, you can change the status of the permit to work to Issued status. Then, you can change the status of permit to work to Active status so that work can begin.
