Accessibility features for Maximo® Health, Safety and Environment assist users who have disabilities, such as restricted mobility or limited vision, to use information technology content successfully.

Maximo Health, Safety and Environment includes the following major accessibility features:
  • Supports interfaces that are commonly used by screen readers.
  • Can be operated by using only the keyboard.
  • Provides documentation in an accessible format.
  • Allows the user to access the interfaces without inducing seizures due to photo-sensitivity.

Maximo Health, Safety and Environment uses the updated W3C Standard, WAI-ARIA 1.0 (https://www.w3.org/TR/wai-aria/) to ensure compliance with US Section 508 (https://www.access-board.gov/ict/about/) and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 (https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG20/). To take advantage of accessibility features, use the updated release of your screen reader in combination with the updated web browser that is supported by this product.

Maximo Health, Safety and Environment contains a screen reader checkbox. The Use Screen Reader checkbox is in the User tab of the Users application. When you select the checkbox, the user interface is optimized to work with a screen reader. The Accessibility Help window provides details on general navigation, menu navigation, and hot keys. Click Accessibility Help from the toolbar of the product to access the help window. To use the accessibility tools to read reports, you must access the reports in Microsoft Excel. In the reports applications, select the Run Reports option. With this option, you can email a .xls file version of a report to yourself at a scheduled time.

Radio buttons To move between radio buttons, press the Right Arrow key and Left Arrow key. The radio buttons are selected as the user moves through them. The radio buttons are highlighted but not selected as the user moves through them. A radio button is selected only when the user presses Spacebar or Enter on the highlighted radio button.
Tree view To select a node, press Enter. When the user presses Enter, the default action is taken for a node. Nodes might have zero, one, or two actions.

If a node has two actions and a user goes to an element by using the arrows, when the user presses Enter the default action is taken. When the user presses Enter a second time, the secondary action is taken.

Interface information

Maximo Health, Safety and Environment has the following accessibility characteristics:
  • If PDF files are included, the files are included with limited accessibility support. With PDF documentation, you can use font enlargement, high-contrast display settings, and you can browse by using the keyboard alone. All PDF documentation is also available in HTML format.
  • Maximo Health, Safety and Environment online product documentation is available in IBM Documentation, which is viewable from a standard web browser.
  • Maximo Health, Safety and Environment does not have audio features in its interface.
  • You can use supported screen readers with the user interface.

  • You use the Go To menu to go to any of the applications that you have access to. The Go To menu is a cascading menu that is three levels deep at its deepest point. You can use the screen reader with the Go To menu.

    The following instructions apply to both the standard navigation and the side navigation menu and describe how to get started with the screen reader:
    1. To get to the Go To menu, press Alt+G.
    2. When you open the menu, the screen reader reads the first application in the menu. If the screen reader does not read the entry, restart the screen reader.
    3. Browse the list of applications in the menus by using the arrow keys.
    4. The screen reader indicates whether a menu item has submenus. To get to a submenu, press the Right Arrow key or Enter.
    5. Press the Left Arrow key to move up a level in the hierarchy. If you press the Left Arrow key at the highest level of the Go To menu, you leave the menu completely.
    6. Press the Enter key to enter an application.
  • The Maximo Health, Safety and Environment user interfaces do not have content that flashes 2 - 55 times per second.

The Maximo Health, Safety and Environment web user interfaces rely on cascading style sheets to render content properly and to provide a usable experience. The application provides an equivalent way for low-vision users to use a user’s system display settings, including high-contrast mode. You can control font size by using the device or web browser settings.

However, the product documentation does rely on cascading style sheets. IBM Documentation provides an equivalent way for low-vision users to use a user’s system display settings, including high-contrast mode. The Maximo Health, Safety and Environment web user interface includes WAI-ARIA navigational landmarks that you can use to quickly browse to functional areas in the application.
