Defining requirements in modules

Use the capabilities that are described in this section to define requirements in modules.

Formal modules
Formal modules in IBM® Engineering Requirements Management DOORS® (DOORS) contain objects that are defined by their attributes. You can create empty modules, or copy existing modules to create modules with the same structure. You can view and edit module properties, and view module statistics. You can check which modules are open and close them, or change their edit mode.
Editing formal modules
The topics in this section describe the options for editing data in formal modules.
Objects in IBM Engineering Requirements Management DOORS
Each row in a module is an object. Objects can be arranged in a hierarchical structure in formal modules. The data in objects is stored in attributes.
Attributes
In IBM Engineering Requirements Management DOORS (DOORS), information about modules and objects is stored in attributes. Attributes have three parts: the attribute type, the attribute definition, and the attribute value.
OLE objects and pictures
You can insert OLE objects in modules as icons. If you do not insert the OLE object as an icon, you see the contents of the file in the object. You can create a blank OLE object, for example you could insert a new Microsoft Excel spreadsheet or you can insert an existing file. You can also insert pictures in modules. You can edit the contents of OLE objects, but you cannot edit pictures.
Filtering, sorting, and creating views in modules
You can change the layout of a module, so that only the data that you want to see is shown. You can add columns, apply filters and sorts, and hide lower levels of the hierarchy. To see the same layout again, you can save the layout as a view that you can access every time you open the module.
Finding data in a DOORS database
You can initiate searches from the IBM Engineering Requirements Management DOORS (DOORS) database explorer, or from within individual modules. If you know the object heading number or the absolute number of an object, you can go directly to the object.
Importing data into formal modules
Use the IBM Engineering Requirements Management DOORS (DOORS) importers to populate modules with data from other applications.
Exporting data from formal modules using Rational Reporting for Document Generation
Use Rational® Reporting for Document Generation to export data from formal modules to Microsoft Word, PDF, and HTML.
Exporting data from formal modules
Use the IBM Engineering Requirements Management DOORS (DOORS) exporters to export data from formal modules to other applications or formats.
Collaborating with discussions
Discussions allow reviewers to exchange views about the content of a module or the content of an object in a module.
