CICS Performance Analyzer

CICS® Performance Analyzer for z/OS® (CICS PA) is an off-line reporting tool that analyzes and reports on the SMF records created by the CICS monitoring facility, CICS statistics, DB2® accounting, IBM® MQ accounting, and logstream data written by the MVS™ System Logger.

Most of the CICS PA reports use the data provided by the CICS monitoring facility. You can produce reports which:
  • Sort, summarize, and provide totals and averages for CMF performance class data.
  • List or summarize CMF exception class data and resource class data.
  • Show which system resources caused the highest wait times for transactions.
  • Correlate performance data for work requests handled across different CICS systems.
  • Analyze transaction response time across single or multiple CICS regions by z/OS workload manager service class and report class.
  • Show DB2 activity for CICS transactions.
  • Show IBM MQ resources used by CICS transactions.
  • Show performance information for logstreams and coupling facility structures used by CICS.
You can also produce extract data sets from the CICS monitoring facility's performance class data, which you can use for further manipulation and analysis.

You need to unload the SMF data to an inactive data set for processing by CICS PA. CICS PA can take up information from the SMF data set to build its system definitions for the CICS systems that you want to report against. You can then use the CICS PA dialog in ISPF to set up and run a Report Set containing your tailored selection of performance reports and extracts.

The documentation for CICS Performance Analyzer is supplied with the IBM Knowledge Center.
