The goal of this exercise is to create an iteration for
the elaboration phase using the elaboration iteration capability pattern.
Procedure
- In the Work Breakdown Structure, expand Classics RUP
for Team Y > Elaboration.
- Select the Elaboration iteration capability pattern
under Configuration view in the Processes > Capability Patterns
> Classic RUP > Templates for Delivery Processes packages. Drag
and drop the capability pattern into the Elaboration activity
of the new delivery process and select Copy. (This
is not the Elaboration > Elaboration Iteration [n] activity.)
- From the Work Breakdown Structure tab of the new
delivery process, delete the original Elaboration Iteration [n] activity
that was copied from the original RUP Phases capability pattern. The
Elaboration Iteration template that you just copied replaces it. Right-click
the Elaboration Iteration [n] activity and select Delete.
Confirm all messages about removing references to elements being deleted.
- From the Work Breakdown Structure tab of the new
delivery process, move the copied Elaboration Iteration activity
so that it precedes the Lifecycle Architecture Milestone. Right-click
the activity and select Move Up.
- Right-click the Elaboration activity and select Open
Activity Diagram. Refine the activity diagram for the
elaboration iteration to look like the following (you will need to
re-add the link from the iteration to the milestone):
- Go back to the classic_rup_for_teamy delivery process.
In this example, the environment is already set up, no detailed project
planning is to be done and no support materials will be created, so
delete the following activities from the copied Elaboration Iteration activity
by right-clicking the activities in the WBS and selecting Delete.
- Prepare Environment for an Iteration
- Revise and Complete Project Plans
- Ongoing Management and Support
- Develop Support Material [within Scope]
Multiple activities can be deleted at the same time. Confirm
all messages by clicking OK.
- Drag and drop the Manage Iteration activity from
the Inception Iteration capability pattern (found in the Configuration
view in the Processes > Capability Patterns > Classic RUP > Templates
for Delivery Processes packages ) to the Elaboration > Elaboration
Iteration activity in the new delivery process and select Copy.
- Right-click the Elaboration Iteration activity and
select Open Activity Diagram. Refine the displayed
activity diagram so that it looks like the following (remember, you
copied the entire capability pattern, so you retained the original
activity diagram, but it may need to be cleaned up after the changes
are made to the iteration). Do not spend much time to make the diagram
look pretty. You can incrementally move elements by holding down the
Control key and clicking the Up, Down, Left, and Right arrows.
