Pre-installation tasks
Plan and prepare to install or upgrade the IBM® Product Master.
Planning
- Read the release notes for information about support product features or enhancements to the release. For more information, see Passport Advantage Online for customers.
- Review the installation scenarios and determine the installation approach that you are going to use.
- Review and complete the installation worksheet and decide the various parameters to use in the installation. For more information, see Installation and configuration worksheets.
- In addition to these general prerequisites, there are other specific prerequisite tasks for installing Product Master. These tasks are outlined in the following topics.
Preparing
- You must set up both a client system and one or more server systems. The application server, database server, and HTTP server can all be on the same server computer. They can be combined together on server computers, or they can each be on their own server computers. The HTTP server is recommended, but is optional.
- Product Master can run on a computer that has a host name with a length of 63 characters.
- You must be logged on with an account that owns the IBM WebSphere® Application Server directories and binary files. The database JDBC drivers must be accessible by this account. The instructions in the preparation topics assume that you are doing the installation locally on the server.
- For best results, install Product Master as a non-root user:
- For IBM
WebSphere Application Server, use the
wasadminID. This ID must own a DB2® client or a Db2 instance and be a member of themqmmanagement group. - For Db2, suggested installation method is to set up one or
more restricted users on a system for database schema users. Because Db2 uses the operating system to authenticate to a new user, a user ID such as
mdmdb1with a restricted shell is the best choice. This user is not required to be a member of any of the Db2 groups. You can also do a simple installation by using a single ID for both the Db2 installation ID and the schema ID. The default ID isdb2inst1. For more information about IBM Db2, see the product documentation. - A different database user and schema must exist for each deployment of Product Master. Different databases for each deployment are not required.
- When you install on IBM
WebSphere Application Server, ensure that no server
named
serveror cluster that is namedclusteris being used on IBM WebSphere Application Server. The namesserverandclusterare used by the IBM Product Master installation.
- For IBM
WebSphere Application Server, use the
