Figure description: LINAGE clause

This figure shows the relationship of values specified in a LINAGE clause to the vertical space on a logical page. This description is based on the following LINAGE clause:

LINAGE 50
LINES AT TOP 5
LINES AT BOTTOM 5
WITH FOOTING 4

The figure uses a rectangle to show a logical page. A line from the top edge of the page to the bottom edge indicates the logical page depth. The page depth is 60 in the example (the sum of LINAGE, LINES AT TOP, and LINES AT BOTTOM).

The logical page is divided by horizontal lines into three parts, labeled from top to bottom as top margin, page body, and bottom margin. The size of the parts is defined by the LINAGE clause as follows:

  1. Top margin is specified by LINES AT TOP (5 lines in the example).
  2. Page body is specified by LINAGE (50 lines in the example).
  3. Bottom margin is specified by LINES AT BOTTOM (5 lines in the example).

The footing area is shown within the page body, at the bottom just above the bottom margin. The WITH FOOTING phrase defines the footing area as 4 lines in the example.
