This paper expands on the previous blog entry and shows the actual way you can put together Social Business or as they call it Enterprise Computing for Business Value. IT first breaks down social computing as having two real requirements, one is that it relies on connections between people and second it enables network effects where the actions of one person help many. They go on to talk about some goals business might have and how they would achieve them. So for example they talk about expertise identification which is almost entirely a byproduct of having internal social collaboration. Since people have to identify themselves the information on what expertise they have becomes available almost entirely without having to prompt people. Another goal they talk about is knowledge sharing which really is the main function of internal collaboration. You put stuff in there so many different people can have access to it and use it. This paper outlines many very good points on how to achieve some of these goals. This paper is really talking about how DeveloperWorks should work and so looking at it you can compare what other people think should be a good internal collaboration and whether DeveloperWorks achieves all those goals. Your goals might be a bit different but this paper outlines how people think something like DeveloperWorks should look and what it should achieve.
