Pinned topic how to get root access? how to install java 1.7?

‏2012-10-30T07:24:05Z |
Hi, I have created a redhat instance, and I have able to access it through ssh.
I am logging-in as "idcuser".
How do I login as root?
The machine has java 1.4. I want to install java 1.7.
Is this possible? how? I dont see java 1.7 on the asset catalog.

thanks.

    Typically for these images you login as idcuser. To get root, you then use sudo.

      Hello,

      I don't think you can get root access to issue a sudo, plus the plug-in would have to be available.

      Can you attempt and let me know the results.

      Thanks,

      Correction sudo has all command available.

      but why is your Java so old - which beta drop are you running?

      idcuser@vhost0203 ~$ java -version
      java version "1.6.0_22"
      OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.10.4) (rhel-1.42.1.10.4.el6_2-x86_64)
      OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.0-b11, mixed mode)
      idcuser@vhost0203 ~$

        $ sudo su
        This account is currently not available.
        but
        $ sudo sh
        works fine.

        Thanks!
