Pinned topic Connection problem

‏2005-09-01T09:01:31Z |
Hello,
I installed Linux SUSE 8.1 on an IBM PC 300 PL. It works properly except for the connection to the network, which doesn' t work. When I try to ping another computer, belonging to the same network, I always get the same error message: Destination Host Unrechable.
The only problem, reported on the system log, that can be related to the missing connection is a "Failed to detect cable link" error message:
Aug 31 18:01:15 svsserver kernel: PCI: Found IRQ 10 for device 00:03.0
Aug 31 18:01:15 svsserver kernel: PCI: Sharing IRQ 10 with 00:02.2

Aug 31 18:01:15 svsserver kernel: Mem:0xf5fff000 IRQ:10 Speed:0 Mbps Dx:N/A
Aug 31 18:01:15 svsserver kernel: Failed to detect cable link
Aug 31 18:01:15 svsserver kernel: Speed and duplex will be determined at time of connection
Aug 31 18:01:15 svsserver kernel:
Aug 31 18:01:15 svsserver kernel: usb.c: registered new driver usbdevfs
Aug 31 18:01:15 svsserver kernel: usb.c: registered new driver hub
Aug 31 18:01:15 svsserver kernel: usb-uhci.c: $Revision: 1.275 $ time 13:53:01

Obviously I checked the cable and switched it with a known good one but I always get the same result: there is no connection.

Any help is really appreciated.

Thank you.

I experienced that problem before too
First run "dhclient" and ping again to check if the problem is resolved.
