Pinned topic ISA Data Collector Silent response file

‏2013-05-17T14:45:45Z |

I am trying to automate our data gathering process and screen the team running the ISA data collector from having to go through the interatctive menu.

I first thought that the record/silent option would present the solution, however, I am hitting an issue in this regard.

I do not wish to make a response file for every profile/node/server combination.  Is there a way to specify the name of the profile/node/server instead of just chosing an option in the menu?

For example:

What the record options records

################################################################################
#WebSphere Application Server server name
#
#[1] nodeagent
#[2] brads

#[3] testc
#

110.SelectListOption=3

However, I want to just pass the server name as 'testc' instead of option 3 since it won't be option 3 on every instance I run on.

Is there a way to specify all these values differently like can be done with the was.root instead of picking a # option?

################################################################################
#WebSphere Application Server root directory
#

50.was.root=/opt/app/WebSphere7/AppServer

Thanks

    You should be able to use the option like

    110.ServerName=<name of server>

    Let me know if that does not work.

    That does not seem to work for me:

    I updated the silent file

    Replaced - 110.SelectListOption=3

    with

    110.ServerName=testc

    When I run the silent install the following is the part of output of interest...

    ===========================================================================
    |                        Collection Input Request                         |
    ===========================================================================

    Input Required
    WebSphere Home : /opt/app/WebSphere7/AppServer
    Profile Name : myprofile

    Cell Name : myCell
    Node Name : mynode
    WebSphere Application Server server name
    [1] nodeagent
    [2] brads
    [3] testc
    [3]> testc

    As you can see it just tried to answer the list option with a the server name instead of 1,2 or 3 which errors our the run and exits.

    I might have mis-spoken.

    Upon further review, the silent response capability in dropdown (selectlist) still expects a numerical and not plaintext.

    So, you would have to provide a number at that point.

    I am struggling with how to implement this at an enterprise level.  We can't run an interactive menu every time we need to perform the must gathers as that has too much overhead.  Since the menu will change depending on what node we run on there seems to be no way to accomplish this with ISA 'out of the box' aside from creating a response file for every Cell/profile/node/jvm combination which would be too much as well.

    The only alternative I come up with is writing our own script.
