Yesterday, I talked about Technology for a Smarter Planet. Other IBMers have also blogged on this topic: Building a "Smarter Planet" and Time For A Smarter Planet.
I said I'd link to the text of Palmisano's speech to the Council on Foreign Relations when that's available. Here it is: A Smarter Planet: The Next Leadership Agenda (audio). IBM now has a Web page on the subject: A Smarter Planet (part of the Ideas from IBM). Since IBM Research is so involved in this effort, they have their on site on the topic as well: Building a smarter planet.
Some articles on this initiative:
- "I.B.M. Has Tech Answer for Woes of Economy" (New York Times)
- "IBM's "Smart Planet" Initiative to be Announced Today; You Heard It Here First" (Fast Company)
- "Change that matters" (InfoWorld blog)
IBM has also produced several videos on this topic. They don't so much explain the topic--that's what Sam's speech does--but motivate why it's important.
Update: Irving Wladawsky-Berger has posted on his blog: Living in a Smarter Planet. (Thanks, gpoul.)
