I have just released a second VIOS Shares Storage Pools movie that you may like to go and watch. We now have two movies covering first an Introduction (the new movie) and then second movie covering a hands-on look at setting it up and running it. There are also the example commands and the Info and download links. I am really liking the Shared Storage Pools simple operation, disk space saving and flexibility. I currently have just a tiny 40GB pool out of which I am running 6 Client Virtual Machine which each think that have 16 GBs. That is 96 GB. I have bot AIX 7 and Linux (Red Hat) but as it is just a regular virtual SCSI to the client there are zero changes and 100% functionality for clients.
Most of all Shared Storage Pools means once I have the SAN LUNs assigned to the VIOS - I don't have to do all that mucking about with LUNs and SAN zones for every new virtual machine - phew! Speaking for myself here but the user interfaces for SAN disk Subsystems and SAN switches are .... bonkers!!! What to other people think? Use the comment feature below - I would like to know others feel the same way or is it just me!
